GAME GUIDE

Donuts guide

A compact 4x4 game with more ways than the grid suggests

Donuts uses a 4x4 layout and Big Time Gaming's ExtraWays system. The BTG game page lists 2,401 ways to win, which is a large number for a screen with only 16 visible positions.

The reason is the Donut Box mechanic. Boxes can reveal up to four Donut symbols or a Wild carrying a multiplier from 2x to 4x. The box therefore changes both how much symbol content occupies the compact grid and whether a multiplier Wild enters the result.

This is the central idea of Donuts. The 4x4 board stays small, but one special position can unfold into several symbols or a stronger Wild state.

Donut Boxes make one position do more work

A Donut Box is not evaluated like a normal single symbol. When it opens, it can reveal several Donut symbols.

That helps explain why the game can support thousands of ways without using a large reel set. The box system effectively changes how much symbol content one part of the 4x4 board can contribute.

A box can also reveal a Wild with a 2x, 3x or 4x multiplier. That creates a value effect, not simply adding more Donut symbols.

The two outcomes change the board in different directions. One expands symbol presence. The other adds Wild substitution together with a multiplier.

Gold Donuts build the Free Spins multiplier before the feature starts

Three Gold Donut Scatters trigger the Bonus Round with 12 Free Spins. Four Gold Donut Scatters award 20.

The Bonus Round begins with a countdown of three. Each Gold Donut that appears resets the countdown to three and increases the Free Spins Multiplier.

This creates a preparation stage before the Free Spins themselves begin. Gold Donuts are doing two jobs at once: keeping the countdown alive and building the multiplier that will later apply during Free Spins.

The multiplier can build from 1x up to 50x per Gold Donut under BTG's description. What matters here is the accumulation, not the ceiling. Every additional Gold Donut can change the state that will be carried into the later Free Spins round.

Free Spins inherit the multiplier built in the Bonus Round

When the countdown reaches zero, the game moves into Free Spins.

The multiplier accumulated during the Bonus Round is applied to wins in the feature. That gives the pre-feature countdown a clear purpose. It is not a separate animation inserted between the trigger and the bonus. It determines the multiplier state that Free Spins inherit.

Retriggers return to the Gold Donut logic. BTG lists two, three or four Gold Donut Scatters for 10, 20 or 30 extra Free Spins respectively.

The feature can be extended substantially, while the same symbol remains central. Gold Donuts open the bonus, build its multiplier and later add more Free Spins.

Unlimited retriggers keep Gold Donuts relevant

BTG describes the Free Spins feature as having unlimited retriggers.

That does not say the feature will continue indefinitely. It means the rules do not impose a fixed retrigger cap. If the required Gold Donut Scatters keep appearing, more Free Spins can be added under the published table. This keeps the Gold Donut symbol relevant throughout the bonus. It is not only a trigger that stops mattering once Free Spins begin.

Donuts has a consistent division of labour. Donut Boxes drive the base-game board changes. Gold Donuts control the transition into the bonus and the extension of it.

Following the Bonus Round in free play

Begin with a Donut Box. Note whether it opens into several Donut symbols or a multiplier Wild and how that changes the compact 4x4 result.

When the Bonus Round starts, focus on the countdown before the Free Spins. Each Gold Donut should reset it to three while the Free Spins Multiplier changes.

Once the countdown reaches zero, compare the accumulated multiplier with the state used during Free Spins. Later retriggers make more sense after you have seen how Gold Donuts control both the setup and extension of the feature.

How Donuts differs from Chocolates

Chocolates is the closest mechanical neighbour: it also uses a compact 4x4 board and ExtraWays boxes.

The games diverge in how they make special positions matter for longer. Donuts uses Gold Donuts to build a multiplier before Free Spins and to retrigger the feature. Chocolates is built more strongly around Sticky Boxes that remain in the feature and Multiplier Wilds delivered through the box system.

The difference is where the memory sits. Donuts carries progress through the Gold Donut countdown and accumulated Free Spins Multiplier. Chocolates carries more of its state in sticky special positions on the 4x4 board itself.
