Butterfly Staxx turns each row into a collection path
Butterfly Staxx uses five reels, four rows and 40 paylines. Its most distinctive mechanic is not the Wild or the line layout, but the way Butterfly symbols move and accumulate.
A full reel stack of Butterflies can trigger Re-Spins. When that happens, the visible Butterfly symbols fly to the leftmost available position on their own rows. They remain there while the other positions spin again.
Each row therefore becomes its own collection path. A Butterfly does not simply stay where it originally landed. It moves as far left as the existing Butterfly positions allow, creating an ordered pattern that can grow across later re-spins.
New Butterflies extend the Re-Spin sequence
A new visible Butterfly during a Re-Spin has two effects. First, it moves to the leftmost open position on its row and remains there. Second, it awards another Re-Spin.
That creates a direct relationship between collection and feature length. More Butterfly symbols mean more filled positions and more time for the sequence to continue.
The feature ends when a Re-Spin produces no new visible Butterfly. This makes the state easy to read from the board itself. The accumulated Butterflies show how much of each row has been filled, while the appearance of another Butterfly determines whether the sequence continues. Butterfly Spins use cocoons to build the same leftward pattern
Three or more Scatters activate Butterfly Spins. The symbol set changes for the feature. Only Cocoon symbols can land, and each Cocoon can be dormant or active.
An active Cocoon turns into a Butterfly. That Butterfly then moves to the leftmost available position on its row and stays there for the rest of the feature.
The movement rule is shared with the Re-Spins even though the trigger and symbol source are different. Re-Spins begin from a full Butterfly stack and continue when new Butterflies land. Butterfly Spins begin from Scatters and generate Butterflies through active Cocoons. This common movement rule is what makes the two features feel related, not like separate bonus systems.
Re-Spins and Butterfly Spins cannot run at the same time
NetEnt explicitly separates the two feature states. Butterfly Spins and Re-Spins cannot be active simultaneously.
That rule matters because both features use persistent Butterfly positions. Allowing both to overlap would make the source of each new Butterfly difficult to distinguish.
Instead, each feature gets its own clean progression. During Re-Spins, ordinary reel results can add visible Butterflies and extend the sequence. During Butterfly Spins, Cocoon activity creates the Butterflies that fill the rows. The board may end up showing a similar leftward pattern, but the path used to build it is different.
Wilds support paylines without changing the collection rule
Wild symbols can appear in the base game and Re-Spins and substitute for regular symbols other than Scatters. They do not become part of the Butterfly collection system.
That separation keeps the title readable. Wilds belong to line completion. Butterflies belong to positional persistence and feature continuation.
A busy result can contain both, but they solve different problems on the board. This is another reason the game works well as a comparison title: its defining feature is spatial and visible, not hidden inside a meter or multiplier calculation.

The best observation is one row from the start of a Re-Spin. Watch where the first Butterfly moves. If another appears on the same row, it should occupy the next available position, not covering the one already filled.
